Several years ago I was introduced to FLAIR Equine Nasal Strips and they have been a staple in my family’s trailer ever since. Hauling a great Bully Bullion gelding who bleeds is somewhat challenging, but FLAIR Strips proved to be just what he needed to perform to his upmost ability.
My gelding has now found his way into my sister’s trailer, as I pursue my broadcast journalism career in Nashville, TN. I began using FLAIR nasal strips back in 2010 while I was working towards filling my WPRA Permit on “Pete”. Being 21 at the time, the East coast summer heat and humidity gave him breathing troubles. Our good family friend, Jennifer Romriell suggested using FLAIR strips and I instantly saw a change in “Pete’s” performance. We went from placing 4th through 6th, to consistently being in the top three at every rodeo we went to. Since then I have continued to use FLAIR strips on all of the horses I have rodeo and have seen the same great results.

The first time using FLAIR® strips on my horses I saw instant results! They seemed to fire harder during their runs and cooled down in half the usual time.
One of my top mounts “Willies Rare Ace”, had an issue with bleeding from time to time, because of this I would inject him with lasix before our runs. This was not something I enjoyed doing, which made me start my search for an alternative. When I came across FLAIR strips I was very interested, and was sold after my first use. I no longer use lasix and my horses have had NO bleeding problems since using FLAIR when competing.

The respiratory system is a limiting factor in performance of horses. The fact that all horses break some blood vessels in the lung (i.e. bleed or experience exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage) during hard exercise shows that this is a system on the edge. Therefore anything that you can do as an owner, rider or trainer to reduce this stress must be beneficial. I found that use of FLAIR® Strips on many typical hotter blooded horses helps to keep them on a calmer, less panic-stricken way of going due to helping them breathe easier. Tiger Moth has hunted all her life. In 2002 she contracted a virus resulting in palate damage and thickening of the wind. She continued with all activities but lost some speed and found heavy going harder work. Thus, I tried a FLAIR® Nasal Strip and the improvement was very signficicant. Not only could she gallop further but recovered each time so she could continue without being left behind but the next day she was not unduly tired as had been the case prior to using FLAIR Strips.

When I used a FLAIR® Strip on my 5 year old thoroughbred mare on the second day of a challenging jumping clinic, the difference was night and day. She had no problems performing, was comfortable, and seemed to enjoy the day. She never got winded. ‘Brushstrokes’ is a twenty year old 13h jumping pony owned and ridden by my 10 year old daughter Alice. Recently, they were jumping in a 90 cm show jumping round as part of a ‘combined training’ competition. The competition was open to children and adults. There were twenty in the class and Alice and Brushy were one of only four to go clear within the time, they finished 5th. Brushy used a FLAIR® Nasal Strip for the first time that day. The difference in recovery after 14 jumping efforts around a 100 metre x 120 metre arena was very noticeable. Alice and ‘Brushy’ are going to Hickstead in June and will use FLAIR Strips again.
