Ken and Karen Breckon might have experienced a harness racing victory with their brilliant trotter I Can Doosit earlier in the evening, but when Twist And Twirl won the $125,000 Northern Oaks for 3yo fillies it was a moment they will never forget.

The $1 million final of the V75 interdominion pacing championship is definitely not simply a contest between champions Im Themightyquinn and Smoken Up, according to star New Zealand harness racing reins man Anthony Butt.

“They don’t give these finals away and it’s not a two-horse race by any means,” Butt said after driving New Zealand superstar Auckland Reactor to a convincing victory in the sixth heat of the series at Gloucester Park on Monday night.

Auckland Reactor was the fastest of the four heat winners on the second night of the carnival and after the first eight heats the brilliant seven-year-old, Im Themightyquinn and Smoken Up are the only undefeated pacers in the series…Read more>>

It’s a disadvantage not to wear the ‘Flair’

More and more harness racing trainers are realising the added advantage that ‘Flair Nasal Strips’ give their horses. You only have to look at the piles of evidence to prove the fact. Director of Flair Equine Nasal Strips, Brain McMath of Franklin in South Auckland, said six winners wore the strips at Alexandra Park on Saturday.

They were Group One winners I Can Doosit, Twist And Twirl, Listed winner Ideal Scott as well as Dancing Diamonds, Your Good Fortune and Minnie Moose.

To cap off a great day La Passione won the last New Zealand of 2011 when easily at Rangiora.
