FLAIR LLC, makers of the FLAIR® Equine Nasal Strip, is pleased to announce that Team FLAIR Barrel Racer Kelly Yates won the Junior Barrels World Championship title at The 43rd American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) World Show on Monday November 7, 2011. The 43rd AQHA World Show is being held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Nov. 5-19, 2011. Yates was one of 3,572 total entries during this year’s competition.
Championship mount FIESTA DEL REY (a.k.a. Wizard), is a 2006 chestnut gelding owned and bred by Yates — out of her mare FIREWATER FIESTA by DUAL REY. FIREWATER FIESTA was the 2000 and 2001 AQHA-PRCA Barrel Racing Horse of the Year with $11,084 in Barrel Futurities of America earnings alone. “He’s just extremely special,” Yates said of Wizard. “I call him my knight in shining armor. He just loves it, like she did. It’s not work.” While Yates didn’t take FIESTA DEL REY to many futurities as a four- year old, she says she “…saw something special in him.”
Yates, a member of Team FLAIR Barrel Racing, uses FLAIR strips on all her competition horses to protect their lungs and keep them running their best. Using FLAIR strips on Wizard at the AQHA World Finals as the pair raced toward their Junior Barrel Racing win, Yates said of her horse, “He’s just been an awesome horse. I’m very proud of him.”

“Yesterday was pretty cool! I got to go see Frenchmans Guy in St. Onge, South Dakota which was about two hours from Gillette. I saw all of the Myers studs they havestanding and also all 50 horses they have in their sale coming up in a month. We were only a hour from Mount Rushmore where the presidents faces are so we decided we had to go see that. It was a awesome experience to see both Frenchmans Guy and Mount Rushmore! I also ran this morning on the horses the Jacobis are letting me run here (who is by Frenchmans Guy). I mis-cued her on the first so we ran a couple strides by it but the other two were awesome! I’m up again tonight and I need to get my first down and have a little bit faster run to make it back. There have been several horses in the barrel racing that are wearing FLAIR strips which is very nice to see!” ~ Emily Efurd
“I think our luck may have turned around! I won the jackpot thursday night by half a second on the horse I’m running at Nationals. We also didn’t have any problems at all on the way from Shawnee to Gillette which is a change from the past week. God really answers prayers! Another great example of that is we got word that Kelly Blanton who was injured at shawnee is doing better then expected and now able to move both shoulders. Everyone keep her in your prayers!” ~ Emily Efurd
