Exciting Argentinian-bred sprinter Argy Bargy added some glitter to his emerging resume when he captured his first Group race on Sunday, the $200,000 Paititi Gold Trophy (1200m).
The Mutakddim three-year-old was already a three-time winner before his first foray at Group level, but a doubt still hovered in the Patrick Shaw camp as the gelding had bled after his only defeat on January 28, a neck second at the hands of Ernie Harris.
Though he had no weight on his back (50kg), Argy Bargy ($17) was still facing a stiff task as he was tackling some of Kranji’s top guns with none other than Waikato, Merchant and Best Knight and up-and-coming sprinter Excavator in the line-up. Read More>>

Lockdown bounced back to winning ways by striking for the first time over 1600m on Friday night.
Restricted to sprint races despite his pedigree suggesting he can stay being by Melbourne Cup-winning sire Jeune, the six-year-old chestnut ground out a tough win in the $55,000 Class 4 Division 2 race (1600m) despite facing the breeze for most of the way.
Ridden by jockey Barend Vorster, Lockdown was always handy, and while favourite Ready To Strike (Joao Moreira) was battling with both his heavy impost and traffic in the home straight, he kicked strongly to hit the lead at the 200m. Read more>>

Smart Argentinian-bred galloper Argy Bargy emerged victorious from a stirring duel with Cash Dot Com in the $75,000 Class 3 race over 1200m on Polytrack on Friday.
The duo started as joint $12 favourites and more than lived up to their tags when they kept each other in their sights right from barrier rise before staging a cliffhanger of a battle inside the last 300m that could have swung either way.
Argy Bargy (Barend Vorster) eventually outsprinted his rival to scored by half-a-length. Cash Dot Com (Jose Verenzuela) certainly lost no admirers from the way he fought all the way to the wire. Read More>>

There was stunned silence after the long odds-on favourite Better Than Ever was rolled in the $300,000 Group 2 Stewards’ Cup over 1400m on Sunday.
The in-form combination of trainer Pat Shaw and jockey Barend Vorster inflicted the telling blow on punters when Jamal Malik, a $157 chance, stalked the favourite throughout the race.
With a good turn of foot on the yielding track, Jamal Malik raced clear of the $5.30 favourite Better Than Ever (Saimee Jumaat) to score by a length-and-three-quarters with Speed Baby (Saifudin Ismail) a half-length back in third place.
